SEPTEMBER. 1952 New Gateways Open To Elm Street 3Jll he to )ut he ar 7; np all ia- ly- ei ill it Two new gateways have been installed giving access foi- en trance and exit on West Elm Street. These gateways are joined by a 14’ x 741’ long concrete roadway. The area around the frame I’epair huilding and the rear of the boiler plant rvill also be covered with concrete. One of the main purposes of tills new Construction is to provide easier access to the frame repair building and boiler plant area. It also connects with our present shipping road and can be used in conjunction with this. Films To Be Shown f he regular September meet ing of the Caromount Employee Safety Committee which was called for Thursday, September I, 1952 was postponed until the October meeting. At that time two safety films will be shown, one entitled “Everybody’s Different” and the other, “Teamwork for Safety”. these movies will be the fourth and fifth in the series “Human F'actors In Safety” which is pre pared by the National Safety Eouncil especially for Foremen. The showing of the first three films was well attended by Super visory Personnel and employees, and it is hoped that the Depart ments will continue to send all of their committee mem bers to these important meetings, bhe date of the October meeting ^vill be announced later. Appointed To Board Walter Greenman, Acting Re- jMent Manager of the Southern l^ivision of Sidney Blumenthal & Inc. has been appointed to me Board of Directors of the l^jash Count y—Rocky Mount ^bapter of the American Red I'oss. He has recently served as recruiting Chairman for the Red ^ress Blood Mobile Visit on Sep- ^^mher 18, 1952. Council Meeting Held rhe Third Quarterly Meeting of the Eastern Carolina Safety Council was held in Roanoke Ra pids on Friday, August 29, 1952. The program for this meeting was a safety quiz show which proved to be informative as well as entertaining. Many nice prizes were awarded among w'hich was a piece of 137 Vevelteen from Sidney Blumenthal & Co. Inc. for making a dress for some lucky lady. Representing the Caromount Division were: Herman Allen, Warping; Clyde Evans, Weaving; Oscar Satterfield, Final Examin ing; Julian Whitehurst, Shipping; and George Harper, Safety Direc tor. Fall Program Begins Troop 113 started their new year of Scouting activities on Tuesday, September 9, 1952, after having rather informal meetings during the summer months. The meeting was opened with a ceremony installing the new of ficers. Ronnie Hay was named to take over the all important job as Senior Patrol Leader. Phillip Bone is to be Patrol Leader and Willard Williams will be his As sistant in the Cobra Patrol. Ronald Smith and Kirk Haskins will re- (Continued on Page Two) Blumenthal Directors Visit Southern Division On September 18 the Southern Division played host to the Board of Directors and officers of the company who came to Rocky Mount for the purpose of their monthly meeting. Upon their arrival they went directly to Wilson and inspected the Wilson plant, after which they returned to Rocky Mount and made a complete tour of the Caro mount Division. Upon completion of this tour, the entire party met at the Field House for a luncheon, after which the officials held their regular monthly meeting. They were also invited to at tend a tobacco auction through the courtesy of the local chamber of commerce. When all the business was com pleted they were escorted to Dro- melihy where they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Schell for a buf fet supper and entertained by them until their train left Rocky Mount. (Continued on Page Two) Americans Speak Up Series Is Resumed The seventy-sixth broadcasts of the popular radio program, Ameri cans Speak Up was resumed on Sunday, September 14 at 1:45 P. M. on Radio Stations WCEC in Rocky Mount and WVOT and WGTM in Wilson. Speakers Announced “What’s In That Textbook?” was the topic discussed by Mrs. Lucille Cordin Crain, editor of the Educational Reviewer on Sep tember 14 when the series opened and Major George Racey Jordan, Vice-President and Director of Ad vance Research, Remington Rand Inc., discussed the topic “From The Jordan Diaries” on September 21. The speakers through October include more prominent Americans listed below: September 28—“It’s Time To Wake Up!” by Harry T. Everyingham; October 5— “Tag Your Taxes” by Major Ben jamin H. Namm; October 12— “Inside Russia’s Bluff” by Nor man C. Stines >■ October 19—‘‘This New Tyranny” by Louis J.
